Earlier this year there was a mass exodus from Twitter or X if you’re that way inclined. And other app creators jumped on the chance to fill the gap in the market.

That includes the Instagram team who created Threads.

Threads is described as an app for “sharing text updates and joining public conversations”.

It was launched over the summer but it is only coming to Europe now. Which means that we can finally get it here in Ireland. Here’s everything you need to know!

What is Threads?

The app which is made by the Meta creators, which acts pretty much like Twitter. It is mainly a word-based app.

Posts can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length.

However, it also is linked perfectly to Instagram in fact it offers the ability to share posts from Threads directly to Instagram Stories. And it has a very similar interface.

How do I make an account?

Well, you can create an account just like on any other platform. Just download the app and start creating.

Or you can import all your details from Instagram. Pretty handy, huh?

However, it is more difficult to delete your account. According to Meta, “your Threads profile can only be deleted by deleting your Instagram account.”

How does it compare to Twitter?

Well, it’s still a very new app.

It is said to be a more positive and friendly app.

However, there are definitely bits that are missing including direct messaging, trending topics and the option to edit posts.

Who is on Threads?

Well, the app may have just landed in Ireland but it has been available in the States for months.

The likes of Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears are on Threads.

And we’re sure more will be joining as the weeks go on!
