Cozymaxxing might be seen as another social media wellness trend that users will hyperfixate on for a few weeks before jumping onto the next big thing that is set to magically transform our mental health.

In this digital age, we are constantly being fed different trends, and it seems hard to differentiate between what ones can have benefits and what ones are just another brand deal or the new buzzword for companies to make a quick earning on.

However, this new idea of cozymaxxing seems to be one of the few trends that might really have good benefits for our mental health. It’s all about taking time out for yourself and allowing you to really connect back with your body’s emotions.

What is cozymaxxing?

In society today, those who never have a free moment to spare and are insanely productive are praised. We have created a concept that if we take time for ourselves, we are lazy and not pushing ourselves to the limit of our ability.

Cozymaxxing is trying to rewrite this thinking. Instead, it praises taking time for yourself and listening to your body’s call to slow down. It’s about creating a space that you find comfortable and relaxing, and trying different activities that allow your brain to wind down.

With more and more people experiencing increasing stress and anxiety levels, and the term burnout is on the rise, this gives people a chance to avoid raised heart rates and take time for themselves without the distractions of the outside world of calls, emails, and an inner voice telling them to keep going till breaking point.

While it might just seem like another form of self-care, which it is, cozymaxxing is more about intentionally scheduling time out of your busy life to create a safe space that you can allow yourself to reset before going back out and tackling all that life throws at us. It’s like a refuelling for your brain – you don’t wait till your car is at empty to fill it up, you keep stopping to top it up along the way, and this cozymaxxing is the exact same principle to ensure that you can keep getting the best out of your life while avoiding burnout and stress.

How to “Cozymaxx”

Cozymaxxing is all about creating a sanctuary somewhere in your life that you can feel safe and be fully at peace. While creating that space can be filled with whatever your heart desires, there are some things that you should add to gain the full benefits

Go somewhere quiet

Firstly, to achieve cozymaxxing, you need to go somewhere that you know is quiet. This can be your bedroom, sitting room,or anywhere that you know you can achieve full peace and quiet with no background noise. Going to this space where you are alone in silence allows you to fully connect with your body and tune into how you are feeling. There are no distractions for your body to be alert to, and the mind can settle.

Dim Lighting

It’s important to have dim, calm lighting in your cozymaxxing sanctuary. Small lamps, and salt lamps that emit a warm yellow glow, are perfect to create a soft and calm atmosphere – no “big lights” allowed! These lights, while look visual pleasing, actually have a scientific effect! The type of light they give off mimics sunrise and sunset, which has been proven to reduce stress and promote relaxation levels.

Layers of blankets and soft pillows

These are not just essential in your cozymaxxing space but in any space. They provide comfort to make sure you can relax. They also keep you warm and can often make you feel safe, like you are getting a big hug!

Making a warm drink

Like the blankets and pillows, having a warm drink can keep you cosy. It relaxes the mind, especially if you opt for a calming herbal tea, but hot chocolate can still have the same effect. After all, who wouldn’t feel zen after a warm hot chocolate while being wrapped up?

Staying off your phone

One of the most important things during cozymaxxing and possibly the most difficult part, is staying off your phone and removing it from your site for a few hours. Being on our phones is known to increase our stress and anxiety levels as we are always keeping alert for a notification or scrolling endlessly searching for something we aren’t even sure of. Engaging in cozymaxxing is the perfect time to make use of the Do Not Disturb button and train your brain to relax without your phone.

Instead of doom scrolling, cozymaxxing encourages you to try to pick up something creative to get your mind off everyday life and overthinking situations. It’s the perfect chance to pick up knitting or painting, or get into your new book or even go back to your childhood roots and start of mindful colouring. There is an endless list of creative avenues for you to explore as you spent time in your cozymaxx sanctuary.

Candles

The last step to finish off your cozymaxx space is, of course, a calming candle. Having a calming candle like lavender or chamomile helps soothe the mind as you drift into a world of relaxation. Even then action of lighting a candle alerts your body that this is time to reset.

This time to yourself is productive and something that everyone should bring into their routine. By carving out an evening or afternoon every two weeks to take part in this self-care means you are protecting the future you. You are doing them a favour and making sure you are fully capable to keep going without hitting burnout.

This time of year can be the perfect chance to give cozymaxxing a try. As the evening gets colder and darker, what better time to get cosy and spend evenings doing things you love and relax you before the busy season comes around.
