We all have heard that seaweed is a product we should all be adding to our routines.

But why exactly is that?

Well, for the February issue of VIP Magazine, we sat down with the founders of VOYA, Kira and Mark Walton.

Mark tells us: “There’s no other plant on this planet that has a wider range of minerals, vitamins and bio-active compounds than seaweed. If you picked up a particular fruit, it could have a high level of antioxidants and vitamins, another might have flavonoids, but seaweed has a massive spectrum which can all be harvested for use in skincare.

“That’s why you see it in a lot of brands. Even if they’re not exactly a seaweed brand, they’ll use seaweed extracts in formulations. Where we live in Ireland, we’re blessed with a unique environment where so many differnt varieties of seaweed can grow. We’ve spent 20 years working with different people to isolate certain compounds to get the most benefit for skincare. If you want certain functions, you isolate certain compounds. There’s so much goodness, and they’ve such a variety of uses.”

Kira adds: “Irish seaweed is so good because of the flow of the waters on the west coast, with the Gulf Stream and the North Atlantic cliffs.”
