It’s an emotional yet happy time for Vicky Phelan at the moment as last week she flew home to Ireland to spend time with her husband and kids. As she is still in the midst of quarantining, at the moment her movements are very limited, but she has been able to go for a daily walk on her favourite beach.
Sharing to Instagram how happy she is to be home, she also revealed that her husband found a beautiful welcome for her at the beach a couple of days ago.
She said; “My husband, Jim, discovered this painted rock with a lovely, personalised welcome message for me at the Surfers Entrance two days ago. I have no idea who painted it for me but if anyone knows, please DM me.”
“I would love to thank the artist. Jim brought it home to me. THANK YOU, whoever you are, for such a thoughtful gift.”
This is not the only warm welcome she has revealed since returning to Ireland as a local hotel also delivered a stunning picnic hamper for the family to enjoy.
The cervical check campaigner also said that she is getting her 5 day Covid PCR test today and said; “fingers crossed all will be well and I will be able to move around more freely.”
Continuing she added; “Thank you to everyone for the lovely messages. I can’t keep up with them all at the moment because I am focusing on spending time with my kids but I will get there…”
Vicky flew to the US at the start of the year to partake in a new clinical cancer trial in a bid to shrink her tumours and prolong her life. Although she initially told family and friends she would only be going for a period of six months, she will actually be there for a year.
Revealing recently why she never told them it would be a year she said; “I lied for myself as well as everyone else. I think saying goodbye to everyone for 12 months in January would have been to hard, I wouldn’t have been able to do it.”
“I decided I’d tell everyone I was only coming for six months and then when I got here, break the news.”
We are so happy to see Vicky back on Irish soil!
