Australian actress Toni Collette has revealed learning how to speak in an Irish accent for her role in Grassland was a very daunting experience.
She starred alongside Irish actor Jack Reynor in the film, and said she was very intimidated by it.
Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show, Toni said, “It started with pure panic. I was totally intimidated by it. I went to an amazing dialect coach. I think you have to get out of your head, and once you start doing something, it becomes much easier.”
The actress also revealed her previous Irish connections, admitting she’s smitten with our little country.
“I had an Irish boyfriend, and then I met a lot of wonderful Irish people. I used to come and hang out with a friend of mine who was like a big brother. I kind of lived in Dublin,” she said.
Toni spent so much time here at one stage in her life, that she eventually bought a house in the countryside: “I ended up buying a property in county Wicklow in Roundwood. It was very lovely.”
Despite not living there anymore, Toni makes sure to keep her visits to the Emerald Isle very regular – that’s what we like to hear!
