Today FM confirm why Pamela Joyce left radio show

Pamela Joyce confirmed that she would be leaving Today FM one year after she stepped into the lunchtime slot on the station.

At the time, Today FM wrote on social media: “We want to wish the one and only Pamela Joyce the very best of luck as she finishes up her lunchtime show on Today FM. We’ve loved every minute of the last few years Pam, you are one in a million.”

Pamela then reshared the post on her Instagram Story, simply writing: “Currently bawling my eyes out. End of an era but it’s time to get home to Galway.”

Today FM has now confirmed to VIP Magazine why she has made the decision to leave the station.

“Pamela Joyce has made the decision to say goodbye to her lunchtime radio show on Today FM,” the statement reads.

“Pamela’s moving back west to focus on her life and new opportunities. It’s been an absolute pleasure to have Pamela as part of the Today FM team and on-air line-up and we wish her the very best in whatever comes next.”

The station confirmed: “Today FM will announce a new lunchtime show in due course.”

Pamela previously told VIP Magazine that she is “so proud“ to hear all the women on air, with more and more being given the opportunity to get behind the mic in recent years.

“I remember when I first started in radio, someone once said to me ‘People don’t really like women on the radio’. I was like, ‘Sorry what?’, “ she told us.

“Traditionally, if you go back to the 60s, 70s, 80s it would have been a male voice you would have heard on the radio. But nowadays it’s very much 50/50 if not more.“

She has long praised her predecessor, Mairead Ronan, telling us: “Mairead has been my champion since day one. Even when I was just starting out on Today FM, she would always get me on the show to do this, that and the other.

“That continued on when I got the lunchtime show. She really got me going. We’re always in contact. She’s like a big sister to me.“

Good luck on your next adventure, Pamela.
