The new season of the Late Late already looked like kicking off with a cracker, as Ireland’s Olympic stars prepared to give their first big interviews.
Boxer Michael Conlan is set to talk about his disappointment at losing out on a boxing medal in such controversial circumstances, while O’Donovan brothers from Cork, who won a rowing silver medal, will join Michael on the Late Late sofa, and no doubt charm the audience in the way they have done in all their press interviews so far. Celebrating beside Gary and Paul will be Annalise Murphy, who also did the country proud by winning a silver medal in sailing. And as if that wasn’t enough to cheer about, Paul O’Donovan will also talk about his famous solo gold medal at the recent World Championships!
Now comes the news, however, that yet another star has been added to the line-up – Jamie Dornan. The A-list star, in Dublin this week for the premiere of his new movie Anthropoid, conducted a pre-recorded interview with Ryan, which will be shown on Friday night. In this exclusive chat, Jamie talks about his starring role in Fifty Shades of Grey, and also about his attitude to stardom.
“The fame aspect that comes with being a working actor does not intrigue me in the slightest,” he tells Ryan. “I think something like being Irish helps. The fundamentals of your life don’t change. Your wife, your kids, your family and your friends, all that stuff, the stuff that makes you, doesn’t change. On nights like this when you go to a premiere and it all seems crazy, it’s all very heightened but every day is totally normal. It’s just a job, you go to work and do your job and then that’s it.”
As we’ve already said, the Olympic heroes made the show a great one – adding Jamie has made it unmissable! That’s our Friday night sorted…
