“There’s not too many surprises in life”: Kayleigh Trappe chats engagement and wedding planning

Kayleigh Trappe

Kayleigh Trappe is like Alice in Wonderland. She’s fallen down the rabbit hole of wedding planning.

“I’ve opened this new world now and it’s madness. The wedding world is just something else,” she tells us as we chat at the launch of Platinum VIP Style Awards.

Last time we chatted to her, she was joking about getting her now fiancé, Tom, to propose. In January, Kayleigh announced that he had gotten down on one knee to pop the question.

“I didn’t have a clue! I put the video up and my hair was hanging out of my head, I was wearing dirty, pesto-covered pyjamas. I said to him afterwards, ‘You pick your timings right’,” she tells us with the biggest smile.

“There’s not too many surprises in life and I always said I didn’t want to have a clue about the proposal. The night before I turned to Tom and told him I was after breaking my second nail. He wanted to see and I was like, ‘Why is he concerned about this?’

“But he said the next day he was only concerned about what hand it was. But it was so lovely, I preferred it like that. In this world that’s so busy and glamorous, I want to do things like that the right way.”

As for wedding planning, she confesses that they were “naive” to think they could sit on their laurels.

“We were naive at the start. We got engaged and thought we would sit back, chill out and hope for the best. But oh wow! That world works fast,” she laughs.

“My mam was begging me for a little Italian trip, but that is definitely off the cards. We might do that for the honeymoon. We’ve ideas in mind, but we’re in no panic. We don’t want to rush it, we’re young and we’re enjoying life. But we’ll get there. So far, so good.”

As for work, she jokes: “I’ve been here, there and everywhere. I always say I’m like Sudocrem, you can find me everywhere. One minute I’m doing lip syncs and then the next I’m dolled up to go to the awards.

“I’ve been doing bits and bobs of TV. I always say I want to keep the ball rolling all the time, and the ball is still rolling.”

And she teases what’s next for her, confesses it’s “all go”.

“Summertime is very busy coming up but in a good way. I love stepping into different roles. The ultimate dream for me is a bit more acting. I’m mad to get back on stage and on the screen.”

She previously had a guest role on Fair City and she has her fingers crossed for a return.

“They never killed me off. The door is still ajar there, I would like to think.

“Just give me a script, give me a director and just say action – that’s my favourite thing in the world. I loved doing it as a child and now I get to do it now it’s really nice.”
