We are trying to combat the January Blues here at VIP HQ.
And while we don’t think January is ever going to end, we have had plenty to celebrate this week. Ireland earned 14 nods at the Oscars this week, including nominations for Paul Mescal, Barry Keoghan, Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Kerry Condon. An Cailín Ciúin made history by becoming the first Irish language film nominated for an Oscar.
Oh and Niall Horan announced he’s releasing new music.
So there’s plenty to celebrate this week, here’s what we’ve been loving…
Digital Editor Bronwyn is loving…The Last of Us
I want to preface this by giving my lovely dad the credit he deserves for getting me into The Last of Us, I spent the last decade watching him play the original game. So when I found out they were adapting it into a TV show, he was the first person I told.
While you’re always nervous when it comes to adaptations when we all sat down to watch the series we couldn’t have been more overjoyed. I was really lucky to be able to watch the entire series thanks to the lovely people at Sky and honestly it may be my favourite TV…ever.
Pedro Pascal, you may know him from The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones or Narcos, has never given a bad performance. And I can imagine him sweeping awards season next year. Bella Ramsey is also absolutely incredible as Ellie.
You can watch The Last of Us every Monday on Sky Atlantic and NOW. You can also watch the first episode for free on Youtube.
Weekend editor Sláine is loving…Paris Couture Week 2023

Some have the Olympics, some have the All Irelands, I have Paris Couture Week.
Yep that’s right, this week the most creative design houses sent their creation down the runway in the French capital and did not disappoint. I’m far from an expert be certainly an enthusiast, so keeping up with all the collections (virtually, of course) has been heaven.
While this was one of the strongest couture weeks we’ve seen, shows that really stood out from me had to have been Elie Saab, Miss Sohee, Zuhair Murad, Jean Paul Gaultier, Rahul Mishra, Armani Privé, Viktor & Rolf, and Georges Hobeika.
As for the celebs who stole the show at fashion week, Doja Cat takes the crown! Whether she was covered in Swarovski crystals or fake lashes, it was always perfection.
