The Traitor’s Eamon: “What you see on screen isn’t what it’s like in real life”

The country was pretty united on our dislike of Eamon on The Traitors.

The Garda played the game brilliantly but unfortunately was the first Traitor to be rooted out and banished from the castle. He has come under fire for his constant battles with the nation’s sweetheart, Paudie and looking a bit too gleeful about those murders. Poor John!

VIP Magazine sat down with Eamon to get to the truth of his and Paudie’s relationship and why he decided to go in to play a villain.

When the topic of Paudie comes up, Eamon rolls his eyes playfully admitting: “It was hard for us to agree on a lot!”

He says that their meetings in the Traitors Conclave could take up to an hour as he and Paudie butted heads. Sure, as fellow Traitor reminds us you can’t have two bulls in one field.

“I would be critical of Paudie’s gameplay because I just didn’t understand it,” he confesses about why he and Paudie never saw eye to eye.

“Especially watching it back. It’s hard to know when you’re in there but I just didn’t understand where he was going with him telling Andrew about Katelyn. He was standing out too much. I just didn’t think he had that in him.”

However, he’s quick to remind us that this is just a game and he and Paudie aren’t in any sort of feud!

“It’s not anything against him personally. I really like him but I only know him from the castle. And we were in the most high tension, highly charged environment. In that situation, I just don’t think he brought great game play to the Traitor team.”

As for his villainous reputation, he admits: “It’s a pure character, it’s a bit of fun. The Traitors have to be nastier than the Faithfuls. They have to be a bit underhanded, what you see on screen isn’t what it’s like in real life. I went out there to build a character that the country can root against and I think most of the country watching can take it for what it is.”

He adds: “Imagine a TV show without bad guys, it’d be terrible!”

In fact, he confesses that he has had “unbelievable support” from those around him. Especially from An Garda Siochana

“They’re loving the memes! I got very in general, very, very good feedback.”

The Traitors continues tonight on RTÉ One at 9:35pm
