After months of waiting the new host of The Late Late Show has been revealed, as Down man Patrick Kielty lands the gig.
Patrick is, of course, taking the baton from current star Ryan Tubridy, who has been at the helm of RTÉ’s Friday night chat show for the past 14 years.
News of Patrick landing the prestigious hosting job was announced today, with RTÉ confirming he will be starting this September for the show’s 61st season.
Patrick has big shoes to fill as he follows in the footsteps of Ryan, Pat Kennedy, and broadcasting legend Gay Byrne. However, Late Late Show fans have been sharing their thoughts on the new presenter and are all in agreement that Patrick was the right choice.
Taking to Twitter plenty of viewers shared their excitement at the shake up to the world’s second longest-running late-night talk show.
Excellent choice. He has the humour, he can talk serious and he’ll bring his own touch to The Late, Late. Congratulations Patrick Kielty👍

Patrick Kielty is taking over the role of @RTELateLateShow host. Not only will he bring comedy to the role, but anyone who’s seen his documentary on the north or his interview with @EamonnMallie knows he can bring gravitas too. A decent political mind. @PatricKielty #LateLateShow
