It’s safe to say that when it comes to a Paul Mescal film we will be absolutely devastated.

Think Aftersun, think All of Us Strangers.

We left the cinema with tears running down our faces and the inability to think a happy thought.

And it looks like we’re going to be repeating the pattern with his upcoming flick, The History of Sound.

The film received a six-minute-long standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival when it premiered earlier this year.

Paul will appear alongside The Crown star Josh O’Connor in the forbidden romance film set after World War I.

The Maynooth man plays Lionel while Josh plays David, who meet in 1917 while attending the Boston Music Conservatory. However, with the outbreak of World War I, their lives are changed completely.

In the shadow of The Great War, they embark on a journey together, recording folk songs of their countrymen in rural Maine in the summer of 1920.

Both Paul and Josh show off their vocal chops in the trailer, so we can only imagine how beautifully musical the whole film will be!

The upcoming flick is set to be released in America in September however, it has yet to have an Irish release date. Watch this space.
