The Fall actress Bronagh Taggart is set to star in a new film about boxing called Guard.
The actress, who is best known for her role as Gail McNally in the BBC drama also wrote the short film, because of her intrigue with sports stars such as Conor McGregor. Bronagh will play the part of a young woman called Katie.
Due to start filming next year in Belfast, the upcoming flick is about what happens when Katie’s father Kieran returns home after spending 15 years in prison, and introduces her to the world of boxing.
Speaking to Irish News Bronagh said, “With the popularity of Conor McGregor and Ultimate Fighter I was intrigued by that sporting world – and to set a female against that very male setting is what I was interested in.
“It’s a strong story and a Belfast story. Already we’ve shot promotional pictures at Casement Park and we will be making use of all the boxing clubs there,” she said.
Bronagh has written for other television projects such as Disney’s The Lodge and BBC’s 6 Degrees, but this will be the first career venture that she has written and starred in.
We can’t wait to see it!
