Stephanie Roche has shared her Christmas plans which will be very different this year for a heartbreaking reason.

The soccer star, who is set to take on Dancing with the Stars, explained that her family had a tradition for years of spending Christmas together.

However, this year she told VIP Magazine that things would be different this year.

She was chatting to us at the launch Circle K’s Christmas fundraising initiative in aid of the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation where she spoke about losing her grandmother.

“This year is going to be really different. For years, we went to my granny’s house,” she tells us.

“My granny passed away two years ago. We all went to her house last year because the house is still there. It was one last year at our granny’s. But this year the house was sold, so we can’t do that this year.

“It’s going to be so different because for my whole life we went to granny’s house Christmas house, me, my cousins, my brothers, my sisters, my mam, my dad. She’s not here anymore and the house is obviously gone. It’s the first year we haven’t done it.”

However, she admits that they will be keeping up the family tradition just in a different location.

“We’re going to try to keep the tradition, but instead go to my sister’s house in the morning. I usually go to Dean’s house for the dinner and then we go back to my sister’s house to play with the kids.”

Stephanie launched Circle K’s Christmas fundraising initiative in aid of the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation. From Monday 19th December to Saturday 24th December inclusive, €1 from every car wash purchased at Circle K will be automatically donated to The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation.
