RTE have finally addressed rumours that Fair City’s Katy O’Brien is set to be released this weekend.
It’s been almost a year since Katy was taken to a remote location by a masked man, and viewers are still no closer to knowing when she is going to be released.
In September 2016, 4 months after her kidnapping, fans of the soap discovered that her captor was show newbie Ciaran. However, they are still at a loss as to when she will be released and this is angering a lot of people.
Over the past week, rumours are rife online that Katy will finally escape her captor on tomorrow night’s show, but a spokesperson for RTE has rubbished these claims and insisted the storyline will continue into the foreseeable future.
“I can confirm that the Katy O’Brien storyline will not come to a conclusion this weekend,” she told Independent.ie.
A number of viewers have issued a petition online to have the storyline axed from the show completely – but this hasn’t made the national broadcaster reconsider Katy’s release date.
“To have hastened this story would not have done justice to the ramifications of such an act upon everyone it touches.” she said.
