For an Oscar-nominated film, you’re probably expecting the actors to be earning big bucks, but for the Banshees of Inisherin cast it seems as though that wasn’t exactly the case.
The critically-acclaimed film, directed by Martin McDonagh, has won a host of major awards since its release in October and is hopefully set to gather a few more if the Academy Awards go their way in March.
With a widely successful film, people can’t help but wonder just how much our starring actors got paid.
Well, according to The Irish Sun, the film’s three biggest stars aka Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan were each given $3million to star in the dark comedy-drama.
While that may not seem like a lot of money to regular folk like you and me, in the movie world $3million is actually not a whole lot.
“It’s not massive money when you consider 20 years ago Colin was getting $5million per movie for Minority Report and Hart’s War and a reported $10million for Alexander,” an insider told The Irish Sun.
“Colin, Brendan, and Barry could even have taken pay cuts because they wanted to work with such a gifted writer and director. Talent is the most expensive thing to secure, and the actors were worth every cent on this movie.”
Also gaining an Oscar nod was actress Kerry Condon who played the sister of Farrell’s character Padraic. It was not revealed how much the Thurles native got paid but she may find herself in the same bracket as her three co-stars.
“Banshees is the hottest film in Hollywood right now, with nine Oscar nominations,” added the insider.
“The success of the film is down to the acting talent of its stars. Their agents will now be able to secure them the best deals for upcoming movies.”
With an impressive list of nominations, the Irish film will be enjoying what the industry dubs an “Oscar bump” where films which are nominated for a gong become even more popular.
We can’t wait to see this film grow in success!
