Republic of Ireland player Shay Given, released a statement announcing the news of his retirement from international football yesterday.
The statement included cúpla focal as Gaelige, and when it was read out on Sky Sports News a presenter had a mare of a time with the pronunciation.
Ending his retirement notice in a patriotic way, Shay wrote “Go raibh maith agat”, thanking all who supported him during his career- but the tv presenter couldn’t quite get a handle on it…

He can be heard saying, “Go rabbit meth ag at. That’s in Gaelic at the end there, apologies – I can’t read that out.”
Ah fair play to him for giving it a go- God loves a trier!
