Síomha Ní Ruairc has opened up about her decision not to share pictures of her daughter online.

She revealed that she won’t be sharing her little one’s name on social media either.

The TG4 star announced the arrival of her daughter six weeks ago on social media, but didn’t share a picture of her newborn’s face.

Speaking to Oliver Callan on his RTÉ Radio 1 show, she explained why she will be parenting differently in a digital age.

“I’m not sharing her name. I’ve struggled with this – and I’m not sharing her a picture of her either – I obviously think she is the most beautiful thing to ever grace this planet, and I’m taking a million photos of her day, and all I want to do is show the whole world,” she explained.

‘But unfortunately, I just think in 2026 this is another way that we have to think about protecting our children. And number one, I want to give her autonomy of when she would like to maybe share her information with the world.

“That’s her choice, not mine. But then also, we have to think about kind of protecting our children, like we saw Grok and the AI over on Twitter and that debacle, and you just don’t know where these images could go, so I am not sharing any of her personal details, but look, it’s so hard.”

She went on to say: “It’s so hard because I suppose years ago, we would have had photo albums, physical photo albums, and that’s where we put all our images. Now we have Instagram. Now we have all the apps online, and that’s where we put them to put up a picture.”

The How to Gael podcaster admitted she wouldn’t stop her daughter from using social media when the time is right, joking: “I think she has diva tendencies already, so we’ll see now, when she starts up her own Instagram.”
