Sharon Ní Bheoláin has revealed that she has one regret when it came to speaking out about the gender pay gap.

The RTE newsreader spoke out earlier this year about the vast difference between her salary and that of her colleague Bryan Dobson.

At the time, she revealed she earned up to €80,000 less than Bryan.

The 46-year-old admitted that she felt compelled to be honest about the issue considering her role.

She said: “I was asked a question by the Sunday Indo and I could have chosen not to answer but that would have made me both a coward and a hypocrite. I’m neither.

“How can I cover the big social issues of the day in circumstances where I’m not prepared to stick my head above the parapet myself?

She's doing something new!

“I would have zero credibility,” she told the RTE Guide.

She adds that she was shocked by the reaction she received.

“I was blown away. I cannot tell you how moved I was to receive literally hundreds of texts and letters of support.”

Sharon also admits that she feels she should have spoken to her co-star before the comments were made.

“My only regret is that I didn’t speak to Dobbo beforehand. He was in the States on holidays but I should have tried to get a hold of him. In truth, I didn’t anticipate the commotion.”

The Six: One will now be presented by Keelin Shanley and Caitriona Perry.

Bryan will present radio show Morning Ireland, and Sharon is set to present the Nine O’Clock news, as well as Leaders’ Questions and CrimeCall.
