Saoirse Ronan has nothing but praise for Ruth Negga, who was nominated for an Oscar earlier this week.
The former Misfits actress received the nomination for Best Acrtress for her portrayal of Mildred Loving in Loving – and Saoirse, who was nominated in the same category for her role in Brooklyn, knows just how hard Ruth has worked to get to this point.
“Ruth has been around a long time and she is handling herself so well,” she told the Irish Independent.
“She is smart and she seems like an actress who is in this for the right reasons, which is ‘the work’.
“Once you have the security in knowing that you are in this for that reason, you will be fine. It’s such a journey to get to that point.
“I know how much work goes into campaigning after going through it at last year’s [Oscars]. She deserves it.”
The Atonement actress went on to say that she believes the Irish-Ehtiopian actress is one of the finest talents to come out of Ireland – and is delighted her hard work has been acknowledged by the academy.
“She’s one of our best exports, she has been working so hard for so long and for her to finally get the recognition she deserves is great.” she said.
“She’s a lovely, lovely girl and she’s very talented. It’s a real success story.”
