Ryan Tubridy has shared a heartwarming update on this year’s Late Late Toy Show pyjamas, which will sadly be not going on sale to the public.
A coveted staple in any child’s toy show experience, the iconic PJ’s are not going on sale this year as Penney’s stores where they are sold will remain closed until at least December 1st. But, speaking on his RTE Radio One Show this morning, Ryan revealed that although families around the country can’t buy the pyjamas this year, they’re still going to a very deserving home.
Saying that he has been inundated with messaged from people looking to know if they can get their hands on the apparel this year, Ryan said:
“I’m getting five bazillion messages asking where can we get the pyjamas for the Late Late Toy Show now that Penneys aren’t open.”
“The answer is, you can’t get them this year. They are not going to be available in the shops or online, which is really sad because I think for a lot of people it was part of the tradition.”
“So you’re just going to have to live without them,” he continued.
But, Ryan said that it isn’t all bad news, as the 50,000 pyjamas made are being donated to children in hospitals around the country.
“The only good news I have for you is on is that there were 50,000 pairs of pyjamas made for sale for the Toy Show.”
“But then the lockdown happened. So, what did they do? Penneys decided to team up with Bernardos and they’re going to donate every single pair of pyjamas to children’s hospitals around the country.”
Going on to say where exactly the clothes will be going, Ryan said:
“You have Barnardos, you have the Children’s Health Foundation Crumlin, you have Temple Street, National Children’s Hospital Foundation Tallaght, and they are going to donate it all to sick and vulnerable children across the country because the shops are closed, as you can appreciate.”
Thanking the kindness of all the Penney’s staff, Ryan said that this act, along with them donating €5,000 to each of the children’s hospital foundations, is going to set up the ten days lead up to the show nicely, with plenty of generosity in store on the night of the toy show in just over one weeks time also.
“This is generosity that sets the tone for the next 10 days before the Toy Show hits our screens.”
