RTÉ share update on Home of the Year after Hugh Wallace’s death

RTÉ has shared an update on the future of Home of the Year and The Great House Revival following the untimely passing of Hugh Wallace.

The architect and TV presenter’s husband, Martin Corbett, shared that Hugh had passed away at the age 68 in December.

He simply wrote at the time: “It is with deep sadness and shock that I share the news that my beloved husband and soulmate, Hugh Wallace, passed away suddenly at home last night.

“I am heartbroken. Please respect my privacy at this deeply painful time. Martin.”

Now RTÉ has confirmed that the new series of Home of the Year and The Great House Revival will air this year.

“Now in its 12th series, Home of the Year was completed before Hugh’s death. Hugh has been a judge on the programme since its inception and will be remembered for his warmth and humour, and for consistently capturing the hearts of viewers. Home of the Year will air on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player, starting in early March,” the statement reads.

“RTÉ’s The Great House Revival will also air this Spring and will honour Hugh’s remarkable dedication, passion, vibrant spirit, and enduring love for design and architecture.”

RTÉ Managing Editor, Video, Seán Mac Giolla Phadráig said: “Hugh had such an enormous place in the hearts of our audience who loved him dearly. We’re very grateful to his family and colleagues for allowing us to show Hugh in these final series, which showcase his love for architecture and passion for the work he did across both Home of the Year and The Great House Revival. We miss him greatly, Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís.”

The statement concludes: “Hugh will be remembered with great fondness by the teams who worked with him on both series in ShinAwiL and Animo TV production companies, and by the loyal viewers who welcomed him into their homes for so many years.”
