Roz Purcell is opening up about why she typically spends Christmas abroad.
The model is used to travelling further afield all year for her work, and also her passion, hiking. But the adventure doesn’t stop for Christmas. Her 2023 festivities involved a trip to Argentina, visiting the capital Buenos Aires, and more rural Patagonia.
But now the influencer is sharing why she spends Christmas abroad, revealing her trips started after a rough period in her life.
Taking to Instagram she wrote: “When I was about 20 my older sister Bec was going to Lanzarote training for Xmas (triathlon training) at club la Santa (it’s like a cool adventure resort) so I said f*ck I’ll go. I was just after coming home from modelling in New York and South Africa and I hated myself and I just wanted to escape at the time.”
“So getting away for Xmas started out as a way to get away from everything and myself. But then I went with them every year and loved having a new Xmas Day every year. I started going off on my own adventures then at 24.”
Her Christmas adventures have taken Roz all over the world, spending the festive season in the likes of Thailand, Hong Kong, Madeira, Iceland, Turkey, and Hawaiʻi.
Now the tradition has become one of Roz’s favourite times to take a break from work and focus on enjoying herself.
As she explained: “Now it’s because it’s one of the only times I can go away and turn off my email and Whatsaap and know everyone else is off too.”
Explaining that her partner, Zack Desmond, is in a similar situation, Roz explained: “It’s the same for my partner, it’s his only real time that he can switch off all year.”
The couple began dating in 2016, moving in together when the country went into lockdown in 2020.
Roz finished by sharing how now is the time she wants to explore and enjoy adventures. Saying: “There will be plenty of xmases in the future that are traditional no doubt, so just making the most of the time now!”
