It was a sad week for Rosanna Davison and her husband, Wes Quirke.
Wes’ father, Richard, passed away peacefully at the age of 77 at his home in south Dublin.
He was a doting grandfather to four-year-old daughter Sophia and three-year-old twins Hugo and Oscar.
Rosanna has explained how she and Wes explained passing and grief to their young children.

She shared a picture of the three of them watching their grandfather’s funeral on a laptop screen.
“Rest in peace, Papa,” she wrote.
“It’s been a sad week as we say goodbye to @wesquirke’s dad, Richard. He’ll be sadly missed by his family, friends and grandchildren.
“It’s been a strange time trying to navigate grief with young children, while also keeping life as normal as possible for them. They understand that everyone has gathered together to celebrate his life, but as they’re still so little, we decided it would be best for them to stay home with me today and watch the funeral online instead.”
She went on to say: “Thank you for all of the kind and thoughtful messages this week for Wes and the family, they’ve been a big support at a difficult time and much appreciated. Give your loved ones an extra hug today, life is so precious and fragile.”
Richard Quirke was the owner of Dr Quirkey’s Good Time Emporium which he set up on O’Connell Street in Dublin in 1976.
