Rory McIlroy has been crowned RTÉ’s Sportsperson of the Year over the weekend.
Earlier this month, he was also named BBC’s Sportsperson of the Year. So it’s safe to say he’s having a great December!
This is Rory’s third RTÉ Sport Sportsperson of the Year award, having previously been honoured in 2011 and 2014.
He accepted the award remotely, saying: “Very proud to win my third one of these. 2025 has been an incredible year for me. I think if I rewound 12 months ago and I was setting goals for 2025 and what I thought it would look like, I don’t think I could have come up with this year in my wildest dreams.”

Rory became the sixth man to complete a career Grand Slam of all four majors when he won the Masters back in April.
Swimmer John Shortt was crowned RTÉ Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year.
