In a statement from the golfer, his team said: “Rory McIlroy’s communications team confirmed today that a divorce has been filed.
“They stressed Rory’s desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible. He will not be making any further comment.”
The couple got married on April 22nd, 2017, during a lavish ceremony at Ashford Castle in County Mayo, Ireland. They were joined by some very famous faces including Jamie Dornan.
The couple first met in 2012 at the Ryder Cup where she had been working as a transport official. However, the couple didn’t become romantically involved until years later in 2014.
In May 2015, Rory spoke to The Times about his relationship with Stoll.
“I am very happy in my love life. We haven’t really been putting it out there. She is from America, which is why I like to spend time in Palm Beach … The past six or seven months have been really nice. That part of my life is going great,” he said.
