Roisin Gallagher will lead Lisa McGee’s new series, How to Get to Heaven from Belfast. And there’s no better woman for the job, honestly.

She takes on the role of Saoirse, who she describes as a “chaotic, scatty-brained, clever, creative whirlwind of a woman”.

Speaking to VIP Magazine ahead of the launch of the series, she goes on to explain what attracted her to the role.

“She deals with things that are right in front of her, but she might forget that she has a fiancé back in London because she’s not in London. She focuses on what is right in front of her. Her family are these two women who she knows the bones of and who know the bones of her.”

She is joined by two fabulous co-stars, Sinead Keenan and Caoilfhionn Dunne. The three of them are as thick as thieves, and that dynamic almost immediately clicked into place once they were cast.

Roisin shares: “I think it was there from day one. That’s a testament to the incredible casting and Lisa’s understanding of these dynamic, really funny, really unique people and what happens when they come together.

“The casting director, Carla and her team, finding the right mix of what that looks like. When the three of us came together on a Saturday morning in London to read together, it was a pretty instant feeling of this was going to work.”

Roisin previously appeared in The Dry, where she channelled a posh Dublin accent, but, of course, she gets to use her own Belfast accent in this new show, which she says is a “total privilege”.

“It’s such a joy to work in your own voice. To have our accent, or any accent within the island of Ireland, be celebrated for how it actually sounds is very special. When it’s celebrated to use your own voice, it is a total privilege.”

How to Get to Heaven from Belfast drops on Netflix on February 12th
