Ray Foley announces his departure from The Six O’Clock Show ahead of his return to Today FM

Ray Foley is returning to Today FM with a weekday afternoon slot after leaving the station ten years ago.

We are buzzing to hear him back on air, but what does this mean for The Six O’Clock Show? Well, the presenter took to Instagram this weekend to announce the fate of his presenting spot.

“And just like that! As you might know, I’m starting a new radio show on Today FM next Monday and it’s on from 2-4.30pm. These hours will conflict with my Friday presenting gig on The Six O’Clock Show.

“I love doing the show and we have discussed ways we could try to make it work but after doing every possible calculation to make me appear in two places at once, we have all come to the conclusion that it’s just impossible, and I’m sad to say I’m leaving the Six O’Clock Show,” he explained.

Unfortunately Ray won’t be able to finish out his final show on the telly either due to Covid-19!

“The plan was for me to do my final one tonight but guess what? I have COVID and can’t leave the house. Brilliant. So, I’m done!” he said.

Although he couldn’t have his official goodbye on air, Ray gave the show and its team a very special shoutout on Instagram; “I didn’t want to finish without saying thank you and love to the Six O’Clock Show team who are the best in the world, to VMTV who have always been good to me, and to those of you who watch the show and make it the success it is. And big love to all of these fantastic co-presenters over the last six years, especially Karen, Martin and Muireann.

“I’ll still be popping up on VMTV when time allows, but for now, I’ll be on the couch watching along with everyone else on a Friday. Cheers! Ray.”

The presenter previously opened up about his return to Today FM after so many years, “You just can’t imagine how excited I am to start afternoons on Today FM, I’m so buzzing to get started with a brand-new show. Every day for the last nine years, my key card for the building hasn’t worked, so we might need to get that looked at. Our last song in 2012 was Example – We’ll Be Coming Back For You One Day and now we are!”

Such exciting news, best of luck with the new gig Ray!
