Rachel Gorry has opened up about her husband Daniel’s final days after he was diagnosed with cancer.
However, the influencer has admitted that originally he thought that he just had a “gut infection”.
He was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and passed away on April 1st, 2020, at the very young age of 29.
Speaking on Ireland AM on Thursday morning, she explained that the first symptoms were acid reflux and stomach pains.
“He started passing blood. We were straight into hospital and he needed a blood transfusion. They put the camera down and they said: ‘We see a tumour. You’ve got cancer but we can’t take a biopsy because we need to stop the bleeding or you’ll die if we don’t.’,” she explained.
“He’d to stay there for eight days. He got two blood transfusions then they let us go home and Daniel was diagnosed with cancer.”
She spoke about his 18 months living with the disease before his death, saying: “It wasn’t all doom and gloom, and I know that sounds strange because he was terminal [and] dying but we’d good times and good memories and he’d a great sense of humour around the fact that he was going to die.
“I know that sounds awful, but he took it in his stride. Obviously there were bad days but we made the most of the time we had left.”
Rachel was on the breakfast show promoting the Boots Night Walk, which takes place September 10th, in aid of the Irish Cancer Society.
