Fashionista Pippa O’Connor has hit back at abuse she has received following an interview in which she claims her comments were “taken out of context”.
The model turned blogger was the covergirl of last weekend’s Sunday Independent Life Magazine, and was quoted as saying, “There is no excuse for someone not to have their hair washed. Or to be in a sloppy tracksuit” when it came to mums doing the school run.
This was met with criticism online, with snarky tweets calling Pippa “judgemental”. “Tracksuits are more comfortable than jeans and boots, I’ll wear whatever i want. ‘Theres no excuse’ for being so judgemental of others clothing choices,” one woman wrote.
Taking time off from her trip to Paris with husband Brian Ormond to address the article, the pregnant mum-of-one hit back on her Facebook page.
“Unfortunately some people/publications have twisted and misconstrued what I said to make it sound like I was preaching by claiming ‘there’s no excuse for mothers not to make an effort’,” she wrote.
“It appears some people didn’t even read the article correctly and are trying to get attention/hits/likes to their pages by using me to make something out of nothing. Ordinarily I would never bat an eyelid at nonsense I hear/read. But today I laughed out loud when I read ‘sure she doesn’t work/ she has a nanny /she has time to make herself up everyday’.
“My business isn’t successful by chance firstly, I work extremely hard for everything I have. I don’t have a nanny – although some days I’d love one.”
Pippa continued: “Every person /mother/woman should wear what they like or wear what makes them feel good. I’ve had a child, I’m expecting another- I’ve had my fair share of pj days/greasy hair/ crying from exhaustion and round the clock breastfeeding.
“I’ll be back there again soon and I’ll cherish every moment of the madness. There was no judging or preaching on my behalf. We’re all doing our best and nobody should be judged. It’s very frustrating when comments get plucked out of context and twisted.”
She concluded her statement with: “I actually can’t believe the nonsense and bitchiness that goes on at times- surely there’s more important things to be discussing and writing than making silly stories up about what I supposedly said.”
Her followers flooded the post with well wishes, telling her to enjoy her romantic break in the French capital with Brian rather than “acknowledging the begrudgers”.
Pippa is staying in the glamorous Four Seasons hotel in the city of love, for a ‘baby-moon’ before she welcomes the couple’s new arrival in May.
