Bonnie Ryan has opened up about her fertility struggles, sharing that she would “absolutely love” to become a mother.
She explained that she has been dealing with her own health issues and many people have just assumed that she doesn’t want children.
Speaking to her sister, Lottie, on their podcast, No One Else Will Listen, she explained that everyone is going through things that other’s may not be aware of.
“I am currently going through some health stuff at the moment. For me, I feel way too vulnerable and quite frankly traumatised to fully, fully talk about [it]. I’m very much in my own journey,” she shared.
She went on to explain that she and her husband, John, have been trying for a baby and going through a difficult period.
“I found out last year that we had been trying for a while and I can’t get pregnant myself. Even just getting my mind around that, you just don’t expect it.”
She admitted that she has been keeping her own struggles to herself, confessing: “I can barely even speak to my own family about it because these last two years have just been mental.”
She added that she has received “outrageously triggering” messages from online trolls, including one that stated it was “obvious” that she had suffered a miscarriage. Bonnie was quick to add that is not the case.
“I do hope one day I have loads of little chicken nuggets running around and they’re so cute and I will feel like I can talk about how we got there and that whole side and it could be a positive story,” she confessed.
“But perhaps I won’t be able to talk about that until I get out the other end.”
She admitted that people just presume she doesn’t want children, explaining that a family member asked her did seeing her nephew, Wolf, make her want to start a family.
“They kind of laughed, and I said ‘That’s all I want. I would absolutely love a baby.’ The shock on their face… they said, ‘I thought you were 100 per cent never going to do it.’ People just have no idea… you don’t even know what to say back,” she shared.
She shared another heartbreaking moment, explaining her friends all have kids now: “They’ve all given birth now and they’ve all had their babies. Somebody said to me, ‘You should have gone at the same time as all the girls, you’ve missed out now on that… your children could have all been friends’.”
Bonnie added: “Mum obviously got pregnant five times in a row… [Lottie was] super lucky with Wolf, I know you had a tough time during pregnancy but when you guys started trying, it just happened.”
