Hollywood stars Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas will jet into Ireland for the premiere of their new film, Power Ballad.

The duo are set to host the world premiere of the upcoming musical-comedy in Dublin this year.

The event will take place during the Dublin International Film Festival for a special film screening of John Carney’s highly anticipated film at The Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.

This will not only mark the film’s world premiere but also represents a historic first for the theatre, which has never before hosted a motion picture premiere.

In true Hollywood style, the spectacular event will take place on Sunday, 1st March, with stars Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas set to attend, making this an unforgettable finale to the festival.

Tickets from €38 go on sale on Wednesday, 21st January for DIFF Members Club, Festival Pass holders and BGE Rewards customers ahead of the general release at 9am on Friday, 23rd January.

Power Ballad was filmed in Ireland and features a vibrant mix of Irish and international talent.

The story follows Rick (Paul Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, who crosses paths with Danny (Nick Jonas), a fading boyband star, during a gig. Bonding over music and a late-night jam session, the two strike up an unlikely friendship.

However, when Rick and Danny return to their respective worlds, they discover that this chance encounter will upend both their lives in very different ways.

John Carney Quote Director: “I’m delighted to have our film, Power Ballad, close this year’s festival. It’s apt to go out, after so many great films, with a bang of music and fun. Who wouldn’t want to watch Paul Rudd throw Nick Jonas off a balcony? (Seriously, that happens in our movie.)”

Festival Director Grainne Humphreys added: “A big thank you to Bord Gáis Energy Theatre for being a part of a DIFF first, showcasing our closing night film in their beautiful theatre, and for Lionsgate UK and to the wonderful team at Treasure Entertainment and director John Carney in entrusting us to make it all happen. It’s the perfect closing film for the 2026 festival, which features a record number of Irish features – the future of Irish cinema has never looked so bright.”

Well we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for the pair’s return to the streets of Ireland!
