Paul Mescal is a household name not only in Ireland but across the globe.
But he didn’t lick his talent off a stone.
He followed in the footsteps of his father, Paul Senior.
And the teacher is now returning to the stage and we couldn’t be more excited.
He will appear in the musical, Are Ya Dancin’? – A Showband Story as it makes its highly anticipated national debut at 3Olympia Theatre this summer.
The musical will return for a limited run from Tuesday 27th to Saturday 31st of August (including matinees).
This beautiful Irish tale offers a snapshot of when Ireland was finally starting to find its voice and showband music was the revolutionary language of the people.
The synopsis reads: “Set in Donegal, in the golden era of music, the story follows Tommy O’Neill who finds himself at the helm of an up-and-coming showband.
“As his star rises, he struggles both professionally and personally against the restrictive societal backdrop of 1960’s Ireland. A tale of both joy and heartache, get ready to join Tommy on his rollercoaster journey and witness the music, magic and the glory of the past through the knockout songs of the sixties and revel in a host of hilarious and memorable characters.”
Seán MacMathúna dazzles in the lead role as Tommy O’Neill, expertly supported by actors Kevin Reade as Jim Brennan and Bronwyn Andrews as Annie Brennan.
The production also sees the original Paul Mescal (father and namesake of his famous son) tread the boards as disgruntled bar owner Seamie McDaid in what is sure to be a memorable summer’s night out.
