For Paul Mescal, his life since Normal People has changed radically. He’s become the break out hit of the show and now has a very devoted new fan base.
Not only are people fans of him, but even his chain and his shorts from the show have their own fan pages on Instagram.
However, for Paul, this is taking a little bit of time to adjust to as he assures his many fans that he is nothing like the much loved character of Connell from the show.
Speaking with The Sun he said “it’s uncomfortable” and that “I’m not trying to be full of faux humility but it’s a weird thing when people are very quickly attracted to a character you play”.
“And I think that’s the thing I’m focusing on. I’m not Connell, I’m totally different to him. I think maybe what’s sexy about Connell is he’s kind of classic back-footed, aloof, smart. I’m definitely not back-footed or aloof.”

The Kildare star has also revealed that he has been getting countless DM’s from women on social media since the show has been on TV.
He shared that at the start “it was kind of fun” but his feelings quickly changed; “then a weird thing has kind of crept in where, when people DM, there’s this feeling that maybe there’s an anticipation that I’m him.”
It’s always hard to separate a star from a much loved character, so we’ll have to really try with this one.
