Paul Mescal’s most liked Tweets, when he used the social media app, simply read: “I’m Irish”.
In fact, it was the most liked Tweet on Irish Twitter in 2020 when the Normal People star originally posted it.
He won’t be mixed up for a British actor for sure.
Never, was that more clear than when he met English monarch, King Charles at the London premiere of Gladiator II.

His facial expression went viral with people joking that it was “foul” to make Irish people meet British royalty.
During the LA premiere of Gladiator II he was asked by an American journalist: “”hat was it like meeting the King [Charles]? Have you met him before… how wild was that?”
Paul looked rightfully unimpressed by the answer before stating: “Never met the King. How wild is it? It’s definitely not something that I thought was in the bingo cards. I’m Irish so it’s not on the list of priorities.”
However, he went on to say: “But it’s an amazing thing for Ridley, as I know how important that is for him, so to see his film celebrated in that context was pretty special.”

When asked what he said to King Charles, he bluntly responded: “You just kind of nod along. I found it hard to hear exactly what was [being said]… you’re just kind of nodding along and smiling.”
It’s safe to say that Paul was more excited to play on Croke Park than chat with royalty. As he should!
