Patrick Kielty’s commute may not be the most conventional.
He flies from the UK every week to present The Late Late Show on Friday nights here in Ireland.
But it’s a lot closer to his former home of Los Angeles. The Down man lived in America with his wife Cat Deeley for 15 years before they relocated to Cat’s native England.
While it was certainly a change, the couple knew it was the perfect time to move back to this side of the pond.
Cat and Patrick along with their two sons Milo, seven, and James, five, moved to London in 2020 after 15 years in California.
“Family that was the main factor in us coming back from America,” he told The Irish Sun, explaining that both he and Cat wanted to be closer to their parents.
“My mother is not getting any younger, and Cat’s mum and dad aren’t getting any younger.
“And in terms of our two boys knowing their cousins, it would allow that to happen, and also they are at an age where it was a good age to start them in school over here. So that was the driving force, really.”
Patrick is often in Down visiting his mother, Mary.
“Coming from Co. Down and still having a house there, I get to see the other part of the family here,” he previously told VIP Magazine as he opened up about taking on the new role.
“I think the thing with our lives is that we’ve always had moving parts. Neither of us has had a nine-to-five job. There’s always been stuff where Cat has gone and done stuff, then I’ve gone and done stuff,” he explained at the time.
“It feels weirdly that this show is the most routine that we’re going to have as a family. It’s nice that I still get to do a couple of school runs at the start of the week.”
