Pat Kenny has opened up about the surprise decision by UTV Ireland to axe his new chat show, admitting he was “very disappointed.”
The veteran tv star has admitted he was floored by the broadcaster’s decision to cancel his show In The Round, which ran for just five episodes earlier this year.
And although UTVI said they are “”discussing future projects” with the 67-year-old, they announced last month his chat show would not be renewed for a second series. This may be down to the extremely varied ratings; an average of 150,000 people tuned in for his interview with Tyrone football manager Mickey Harte, but just 66,000 switched on to see him chat with astronaut Chris Hadfield.
“I was very disappointed. I thought it was a good show, but I don’t know the reasons [why it was cancelled]. Things work in mysterious ways,” he admitted.
“I heard it from the production company. I didn’t hear it from UTV Ireland.”
Speaking to The Herald, Pat revealed he didn’t know what factors caused to the show to be cancelled.
“You can speculate on that, I cannot. I know nothing about it,” he said. The former Late Late Show host added that he takes the knock back “all in his stride.” Good for him!
