As the TV3 and RTE autumn schedules are set to get underway, it’s been revealed that Pat Kenny and Brendan O’Connor will be going head to head in the ratings run.
Pat’s new current affairs programme and Brendan’s second series of Cutting Edge will both be aired during the 9:30pm Wednesday slot, meaning that viewers will be forced to choose between the two.
A source told the Irish Sun that this will be the big battle of autumn television.
“The big TV battle this autumn will be Brendan versus Pat. RTE will want to blow Pat out of the water on TV3 and trounce him in the ratings. Brendan O’Connor is the guy they want to do it,” the source said.
However, an RTE insider told the newspaper that 46-year-old Brendan will make it difficult for broadcasting veteran Pat, especially because Cutting Edge airs directly after the Nine O’Clock News.
TV3 bosses hit back, stating that audiences will prefer to tune into 68-year-old Pat if a big story breaks, over Brendan’s panel show.
“If a big story breaks are you going to watch Pat Kenny on the big story or Brendan O’Connor and his panel?
“The Cutting Edge is coming from another direction,” they told the newspaper.
We’ll have to wait and see who comes out on top.
