“Onwards and upwards”: Kayleigh Trappe chats the importance of the Irish language

Kayleigh Trappe

It’s no surprise that Kayleigh Trappe walked away from the Hayu STELLAR InstaStar Awards as InstaStar of the Year sponsored by Hayu.

She has just gone from strength to strength over the last few years. And she is beaming as she walks the red carpet.

She jokes her gúna is “very bridal” before adding, “That’s a hint for my fella!”

We absolutely adore her quick wit, it’s the reason why she has become one of Ireland’s biggest influencers.

Teasing as to where we can see her next, she coyly says: “You could find me here, there and everywhere. I’m like Sudocrem, you can put me anywhere! I love the spontaneity of it all. And the teaching’s always in the back pocket.”

But where we know we’ll find her is certainly in a Hyrox gym as she’s currently training for not one but two Hyrox events.

“I’ve done two sims,” she explains about her prep, “I’m going to the Dublin one, I’m doing that solo, and I am doing the London one as well. I take notions! This is my current fixation. I’m loving it, I really am.”

We have to ask about telly. Would she do more of it? And of course with The Traitors Ireland being the show on everyone’s lips would she do a celebrity version of it?

“I’d love to do it. But nobody would trust me! I live my life dressing up as different characters and doing fake accents. I think I’d get the boot straight away. I’d love to do it and I’m absolutely bate into it this year! Paudie for President all the way!”

Kayleigh really is a woman of many talents, aside from her love of impressions and her grá for the gym, she’s also a proud Gaeilgeoir.

Speaking about the Cearta March which took place over the weekend, she said: “Tá sé comh tábhachtach. Tír gan teanga, tír gan anam.” (It’s so important. A country without a language, is a country without a soul.)

“I feel like it’s such an important cause and there has been such a rise in the interest in the Irish language.

“Tá gach duine ag labhairt í, Gaeltacht agus a leithéid.” (Everyone is speaking Irish, in the Gaeltacht regions and also the rest of the country.)

“So long may it last. Onwards and upwards. We just want what we’re entitled to as our little nation!”
