Nicola Coughlan is The Observer Magazine’s latest cover star. Displaying a pair of colourful gloves as the fashion feature, the Derry Girls and Bridgerton star looks stunning in a close up shot that made the front page of the mag.

In the article Nicola discusses all from her job in an opticians just five years ago, to taking her own pictures at Elton John’s Oscars party when the paps weren’t interested, to now, being named one of Vogue’s best dressed women and hailing two globally loved shows, one of them being a Netflix number one.

But although her fame came rapidly, there’s no fear of this star getting lost in the spotlight, she told The Observer Magazine that she’s still not quite used to her life. She explained in the article that she hears younger actors talk about buying sports cars and she hopes that they don’t, “You just think: nothing is guaranteed” she said.

Nicola is grateful for her long path to success although it wasn’t always easy, “I’ve seen it go the other way, where people get amazing opportunities really young and they are full, wide awake nightmare.”

Just five years ago Nicola was working in an opticians, but when she finally got the role of Jess in Jess And Joe Forever, she promised herself that was the last non-acting job she’d take.

“I remember saying to myself: I’m never going to have a normal job again,” she said.

Now Nicola is feeling so grateful for the life she has she added, “It’s so rare that someone actually gets to do this as a job… Everything I’m ever doing, I think: ‘Imagine if that hadn’t happened.’”

Nicola’s talent is too great to be overlooked and we are delighted to see her get the recognition she deserves. With season two of Bridgerton coming in March we cannot wait to see what her character Penelope Featherington (aka Lady Whistledown) gets up to this season.

Speaking of what’s to come this season she said, “[Penelope is] sort of letting herself run away with it.”

We cannot wait to see!
