Niamh McCormack on House of Guinness role: “I could cry talking about it”

Niamh McCormack

Niamh McCormack may not be a name you’re familiar with, but you should be.

The Dubliner started her acting career in 2010 and has been going from strength to strength in recent years. She appeared in The Witcher, Dungeons and Dragons and Everything Now.

But she’s ready to make her mark in Netflix’s House of Guinness.

Niamh plays Ellen Cochrane, the sister of Patrick Cochrane, who is the leader of the Fenians.

“Ellen represents hundreds of women who have been written out of history. She is a modern woman ahead of her time. She is really representing the working class in this time period which has not been done before,” Niamh tells VIP Magazine about her character.

“Stephen [Knight] has written such a bold, brilliant character who really represents the history we’re trying to tell.”

Like many Irish, Niamh has a deep connection to our history, even revealing her familial connection to that time in history.

“It means a lot to me. I have a direct descendant who was in the IRB; my great-grandad was a lieutenant. I found that out after I finished shooting, which was pretty cool. It means so much to me to be given the privilege to tell a story of our people.”

Tim Creed, Jessica Reynolds, Danielle Galligan, Seamus O’Hara, Niamh McCormack, Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Fionn O’Shea, James Norton, Hilda Fay, Michael McElhatton and Dervla Kirwan

Walking the red carpet, Niamh gets emotional as she talks about joining this stacked cast that includes other Irish actors like Anthony Boyle, Jack Gleeson, Dervla Kirwan, Danielle Galligan and Fionn O’Shea.

“It means everything to me. It was a dream come true. I could cry talking about it. But I won’t,” she promises.

House of Guinness drops on Netflix on September 25th
