New biopic to explore the life of Sinéad O’Connor is in the works

A new film chronicling the life of Sinéad O’Connor is currently in development.

According to Variety Magazine, the film is understood to have been in the works since the release of a 2022 documentary on O’Connor called Nothing Compares.

The Dublin-born singer sadly died in London on 26 July, 2023 at the age of 56.

Irish production company ie:entertainment is reportedly behind the new film, and previously acted as executive producer of the 2022 documentary Nothing Compares.

It’s also understood that Irish writer Stacey Grigg is working on the script and that Josephine Decker will be the director, with BBC Film funding the development.

So what can we expect from the script?

As outlined by Variety, the film will explore Sinead’s early life and beginnings in the music industry.

“It will look to tell the story of how one young woman from Dublin took on the world,” the publication wrote.

Sinéad rose to fame following her first album The Lion And The Cobra in 1987, which received critical acclaim.

She found enormous success with her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, which included the sensational hit, Nothing Compares 2 U.

Sinéad also received international recognition for her music, including a Brit Award for International Female Solo Artist, 1991’s Artist Of The Year by Rolling Stone magazine, a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance, two Billboard Music Awards, and three MTV Video Music Awards.

Overall, she released ten albums throughout her career and was also known for being outspoken on her social and political beliefs.
