Nadine Reid shares plans to have a child through a sperm donor; “If this doesn’t happen for me, I’ll call it”

Nadine Reid has shared her plans this week to have a baby through a sperm donor. The popular presenter and social media personality appeared on Ireland AM to discuss her decision and talk openly about her reasons why.

After being diagnosed with severe fibroids earlier this year Nadine made the decision to try for a baby as soon as possible as doctors told her she made need a hysterectomy.

Speaking with The Irish Mirror she revealed that the issue was discovered during a routine cervical check; “It was like that Indiana Jones movie, instead it was Raiders of the Last Cervix because I went to the nurse first, and the nurse couldn’t find my cervix.”

“You know when you think, ‘what could cause my cervix to be tilted?’” she added.

Although she had noticed some swelling on her stomach, Nadine revealed that she initially thought it was just that she had gained a little weight due to the pandemic; “I thought, God, Nads, you have put on a little bit of weight. Like most people I’ve put on a few pandemic pounds.”

“Even doing the Littlewoods ad, to be honest, as much as I am confident in my body, I remember looking at myself in the mirror going, ‘you actually look pregnant’. I noticed the shape of my stomach wasn’t the usual.”

“And I don’t have a partner or anything so I knew I wasn’t pregnant, so I thought, maybe my fat was growing in the shape of a pregnant woman. But like anything, I just thought, ate a few two many Taco Fries, the pandemic pounds.”

Doctors soon discovered that she had fibroids, with some being as large as a grapefruit, and the treatment offered to her was a hysterectomy.

Discussing this with doctors Nadine said this “broke my heart” as it was “the worst for me, and my biggest fear was that I couldn’t have a child.”

She revealed that these conversations made her feel “written off” at the age of 43 and has since found another doctor who has booked her in for an open myomectomy to remove the fibroids and to allow her to try for a baby.

The presenter shared; “Women are having kids later, having careers, it’s a pandemic, like I haven’t dated in a year. Come on.”

“And to have the opportunity taken away from me is the part that in the beginning of this really upset me.”

After her surgery, she has revealed that her plan is to have a baby through insemination; “Once the fibroids are gone and I’ve healed, I want to have an insemination of sperm.”

“Because with my cervix being tilted, the doctor said it could be more unlikely that it would be easy for me to conceive.”

“And if this doesn’t happen for me, I’ll call it.”
