Ireland AM presenter Muireann O’Connell has opened up about her upcoming wedding, confessing she hasn’t started booking anything yet.
Muireann announced her engagement in November 2021, but despite a year and half passing, she is not rushing to plan her big day.
Opening up about the situation on her And Another Thing podcast with comedian Emma Doran.
Emma brought up the topic saying: “I think these people who get engaged and never get marred – is the biggest cop out I’ve ever heard in my life.”
Muireann found the humour in the the situation, joking about her fiancé: “I do genuinely think that he thought that I’d get married. I think he thought he’d be married by now.”
However, the Limerick native isn’t panicked, citing how most couples take their time when getting hitched.
“But the average length of engagement is two years so we’re not at that yet. So it’s fine,” Muireann explained.
But while the presenter is happy to take her time, not everyone is as content with the wait. As Emma confessed: “But you have nothing booked. Your mam asked me, she texted me and said, ‘Will you ask that child to do a wedding’.”
Muireann admit her mam has a bit of wedding fever and is hoping to get the ball rolling soon. Sharing: “Oh it happens all the time, [her mum says] ‘Oh you know your sister is coming home for Christmas now, so’.”
“It just makes … and we might but we’re not doing it for show, when he asked me I was like, ‘Yes'”
“Just the pressure for all of it. But I love a wedding, I’m mad for someone to have a wedding.”
Muireann announced her engagement back in 2021 with the the help of her co-presenters Tommy Bowe and Alan Hughes.
Writing on Instagram:
“Just how I wanted it to happen; @tommybowe & @alanhughestv announcing my engagement to the world after they finally spotted the ring.”
Speaking about her engagement on the show, Muireann revealed: “I got engaged at the weekend. It was very lovely! He was trying to pick a romantic place, we were in the Europe Hotel, and then we were in our favourite hotel in Cromane, but nothing was right.”
“Then I kept inviting my mother everywhere with us this weekend. He’d be like, ‘Come on let’s go for a walk,’ and I’d be like, ‘Mam come on let’s go!’ He took his opportunity when we were standing in the kitchen and I was making a cup of tea. He got down on one knee, and yes, I did cry.”
Before jokingly adding: “It took us years to get here, so the wedding will be in a decade.”
