Pamela Uba, the current Miss Ireland, has informed her followers that the Miss World competition which was supposed to be held in Puerto Rico this weekend has been postponed due to Covid-19.
Posting an update on Instagram Pamela said, “Hi world, for just about a month now I departed for an amazing adventure to Puerto Rico to be an ambassador for our country and represent us on the @missworld stage.
“On this final day we had a big blow with the postponement of the competition due to our current Covid situation. It is something we could not control as Covid cares for nobody. But we MUST care for each other. As such our health and safety of others is most important especially during this Christmas period.
“I just want to say a huge thank you to my Miss World sisters for your resilience , friendship and courage to the staff, sponsors and organisation for giving us the opportunity and catering for us to Puerto Rico for letting us learn about your rich culture to my organisation friends and family for your continued support and to all of you for always uplifting me
“I love you lots and hopefully we will be back soon.”
Miss World also released a statement regarding the events postponement saying, “After meeting with the virologists and medical experts hired to oversee the Miss World 2021 event and discussing with the Puerto Rico Health Department, the decision has been made by the organisers of the event to postpone the globally broadcast finale at the Puerto RicoColiseum Jose Miguel Agrelot to be held within the next 90 days.”
Pamela, 26, first moved to Ireland at a very young age, starting out her life her with her family in Direct Provision, after moving from South Africa. Since then, Pamela has gone on to become a medical scientist, working on the frontline through pandemic in University Hospital Galway.
