Miriam O’Callaghan has no plans on slowing down anytime soon.
As VIP Magazine’s latest issue lands on International Women’s Day, we catch up with one of the country’s most successful women, who has managed to maintain a stellar career plus be a mum to eight children.
Of course, the topic of taking a step back from the public eye.
She notes that Gay Byrne worked until he was in his 80s and Mary Kennedy, who retired from RTÉ recently, is creating documentaries for TG4.
“Change is coming. That said some people want to retire. Some people are dying to get out of their jobs so it works both ways. I think it should be a choice,” she tells us.
“I can’t remember who said, retiring is like retiring from life… If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it. I want to live my life to the full. I want to live it to the very last moment.”
She tells us: “I’m incredibly competitive …and y’know I hope I stay ambitious until my last breath.”
She’s not going to be slowing down anytime soon. So what are her plans for the future?
“I don’t believe in plans because I think the minute you make a plan life comes along and decides it has a very different plan for you!” she affirms.
