RTE star Miriam O’Callaghan has revealed that her dream chat show guest isn’t some mega famous Hollywood star, but her beloved sister Anne, who passed away 20 years ago.
Miriam was left heartbroken in 1995 when her “precious” sister, who was just a year younger than her and who was her closest friend, died from stomach cancer, aged just 32.
The Prime Time host said that the tragic death changed all of her family’s lives forever. “For me — I always say there is my life before and after Anne’s death — nothing was ever the same again,” she commented.
Now Miriam has opened up about how she’d love to bring back her sister and show her off to the country on her summer chat show.
When asked by TVnow who her dream guest would be on Saturday Night with Miriam, she replied:
“I don’t have a dream guest – I always think it would be very insulting to all my other guests! If it were possible I would probably just bring back my beautiful, precious sister Anne who died so young.
“I’d love to let the country see and remember what a truly magnificent human being she was.”
Miriam’s summer chat show kicks off on June 20 at 9.45 p.m on RTE One. She says she’s looking forward to a break from presenting the more serious Prime Time.
“I love Prime Time – it’s in my DNA. By it’s nature though, Prime Time tends to often deal with very difficult subjects and often we are interviewing people at very stressful times in their lives.
“So the summer show by and large is much lighter and more fun. We’re all multi-faceted human beings so it’s nice to be able to do lots of different things.”
