Melanie Murphy reveals dramatic hair transformation and shares why she chopped it all off

Melanie Murphy has debuted her dramatic hair transformation today as well as sharing why she decided to chop it all off.

The Irish author and YouTuber has been sharing her journey into motherhood since the birth of her son last year.

One of the things she has noticed in recent months is post-partum hair loss, which impacts lots of new Mums. However, more recently Melanie shared that hers had got quite bad, so she took control and opted for a dramatic hair cut!

Melanie was certainly known for her long, wavy locks but we absolutely love this new, short bob on her!

Revealing that she had been growing her hair out for years, it was a tough decision to go so short but she said; “Postpartum hair loss is more noticeable when hair is long & that had way too much power over my confidence levels so.”

Also, having a newborn means something manageable is far easier; “I don’t have as much time as I used to with a baby (I’d rather stare at/talk to him than sit there blow-drying and straightening my Hagrid hair twice a week!) – short hair is quicker to wash, will dry naturally faster & wont need as much heat styling because my hair has a natural kink, which shows up more in shorter hair!”

Melanie also added that she felt it was time for a change; “I wanted to celebrate my new role as a mammy with a change in my look!”

“Instead of losing myself to the greasy messy bun I wanted to embrace the life change by doing a stylish something-something to remind me/others that I’m still in here.”

She continued; “While long hair (in my opinion) is more ‘classic’ and is sexier, short hair is cuter and cooler and those are things I want to feel right now as I literally couldn’t feel any less sexy lol.”

“But maybe this will help me to separate mentally from birth recovery! My son was starting to pull at my hair so this is pain prevention!”
