Melanie Murphy has shared an insight with her relationship with alcohol, revealing that there are multiple reasons why she made the choice to give it up entirely three years ago.
The Irish influencer and author was chatting to Ray D’Arcy on his RTE Radio One show about her new book, Glass Houses when the conversation arose.
She said; “I did I quit about three years ago now and I never thought I’d be sitting here saying that. I just have always had quite an unhealthy relationship with alcohol.”
“Like a lot of my unresolved childhood traumas and stuff would come out when I would be drunk and for years I kind of had rules set on myself. Like once I don’t drink more than two drinks I’ll be fine which was the case most of the time but if I ever had one too many it would bring out a nasty side of me.”
The Skerries native, who got married recently, shared that it was starting to impact her relationships when she did drink. Although she added that she would never have described herself as an alcoholic, she said that drinking could bring out a ‘nasty side’ to her.
Continuing she added; “Essentially my husband and I, we weren’t married yet, and we were going through some issues where a lot of my own problems were surfacing … and it just kind of all exploded one night.”
“And I said, ‘Enough is enough’. I could tell I could ruin the best thing that ever happened to me by choosing drink over my relationships and my social life.”

Melanie and her now husband, Thomas had to call of their big wedding in 2020 due to the pandemic, and wed in March 2020 with her Dad by her side. Since then the pair have been able to celebrate properly and had their dream day in March of this year with all of their friends and family in attendance.
Posting some gorgeous snaps from their big day alongside some pics she said; “What a day & What a NIGHT! Back from dancing with so many of my favourite humans and my face is in agony from smiling…I am so blessed with the people in my life. Especially Thomas. I’d marry him a million times over.”
“Will share lots of pics and vids and all the rest! Just trying to make the most of this as we’ve waited two years for it. It’s been better than we even imagined!”
