Maura Higgins comes to Molly-Mae’s defence as she faces backlash for recent comments

Former Love Island star Maura Higgins is supporting her bff and fellow Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague after she has faced some backlash about comments she made about her success.

The Love Island star was speaking on Diary Of A CEO when she spoke about how she ‘worked her a**’ to achieve her dreams, and how anyone can do the same.

“You’re given one life and it’s down to you what you do with it. You can literally go in any direction.”

Acknowledging that she’s come under fire for similar comments before, she added:

“When I’ve spoken about that in the past I have been slammed a little bit, with people saying, ‘It’s easy for you to say that because you’ve not grown up in poverty, so for you to sit there and say we all have the same 24 hours in a day is not correct.’”

“But, technically, what I’m saying is correct. We do.”

She added: “I understand we all have different backgrounds and we’re all raised in different ways and we do have different financial situations, but I think if you want something enough you can achieve it.

“It just depends on what lengths you want to go to get where you want to be in the future. And I’ll go to any length.”

“I’ve worked my absolute arse off to get where I am now.”

Of course, we’re not denying that Molly Mae has worked hard and continues to work hard on content creation, fashion and more, but her outlook on success may be overly simplistic.

Many took issue with the fact that she was paid hundreds of thousands to come on board at PrettyLittleThing while their garment workers in factories are reportedly only paid £3.50 and hour. The minimum wage in the UK is around £9.

People argue that while Molly Mae and low paid workers have the same ’24 hours in a day’ they are not given the same opportunities or payment, which isn’t because they didn’t ‘work hard’.

Maura Higgins jumped to Molly’s defence when another former Love Island star commented on the story.

Shaughna Philips wrote, “Molly Mae is young, who’s had a lot of success really quickly, and not a lot of “life”. So I can understand why she holds those views. We all say things when we’re younger and look back and think “well that was stupid” lol. No shade, I wanna live in her bubble.”

Maura replied to the tweet saying, “Surely you know as someone in this industry how lonely and scary it can be when the whole internet is slamming you. Your entitled to your opinion yes but I’m really surprised you commenting on this at all.”

Shaughna responded, “100%! That’s why I tweeted this in her defence. She’s young and successful, it’s not her fault she has those views. Like I said, no shade, just jel lol.”

Molly-Mae has yet to address the backlash.
